
| Saint James Church |
St. James church is an oldest church of Delhi. The church is also known as Skinner’s church. Saint James church was built by Colonel James Skinner in 1836 and it is part of the Church of North India Diocese of Delhi. This beautiful church is located near Kashmiri gate which is situated at the junction of Church Road and Lothian Road.
The construction of the church was started in 1826 and completed in 1836. The Saint James Church is eminent for two graves in which one is of Colonel James Skinner and another is of British commissioners of Delhi, William Frazer. The face of the church is toward the east and it has three entrances. You can easily witness the Mughal influence reflects from its architectural style.
The design of the dome of St. James Church is closely identical with the dome of the Florence Cathedral of Venice, Italy. The dome of the church is octagonal in shape and just beneath the dome, there is the sitting area of the St. James Church. The church is surrounded by beautiful garden and there many other famous tourist places are located nearby the church.
