Birla Mandir or Laxminarayan Temple is a Hindu temple which is dedicated to Laxmi and Narayan, located in Delhi, India. The temple is one of the tourist destinations of Delhi and constructed beautifully. The temple is decorated with lots of holy places, fountain and a large fascinating garden.
The Laxmi Narayan temple was constructed in 1622 by Vir Singh Deo and in 1793, it is modernized by Prithvi Singh. Again during 1033-39, the temple was built by Baldeo Das Birla and thus, the temple is renowned as ‘Birla Temple’. The temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939 with the condition that people from every caste would be allowed to visit the temple without any restriction.
The Architecture of the temple is eminent for its northern or nagara stykle. You will visit the scenes from Hindu mythology carved onto the walls of the temple. The highest point of the temple is above 160 feet. The face of the temple is toward the east direction. The other sacred places of the temple are decorated with fresco paintings.
The statues of Lord Narayana and Hindu goddess Lakshmi are placed in the main temple. Apart from this, other small holy places are built which are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Buddha and Hanuman. Left side of the temple dome houses Hindu Goddess Durga and Shakti. The approximate area of temple is around 7.5 acres. Birla temple is established on the Mandir Marg, located toward the west of the Cannaught place of New Delhi. You can easily visit the temple by taking local buses, taxis and auto rikshaws.
