
| Sacred Heart Cathedral |
Sacred Heart is one of the oldest churches of Delhi. It is a Roman Cathedral and spreads over 14 acres area, including St. Columbia’s and the Convent of Jesus and Mary schools. Sacred Heart Cathedral is located near the south end of Bhai vir singh Marg road, near by the Connaught place.
Father Luke has taken the initiative to build this church. The design of the church building was designed by a British architect Henry Medd. You can see the Italian style in the architecture of the building. The design is consisting of a façade of white pillars which supporting the canopy. On each and every side of the Cathedral entrance porch, there are turrets designed in circular shapes are rising above the roof.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral church organizes functions on some specific days of the year. Prayers organize in the morning and evening time every day. Major festival of Christian community such as Christmas and Easter is celebrated at a large scale into the church. Apart from this, many other cultural and social and cultural programs are organized within the church complex throughout the year.
